The Players Championship Tips

Genie · May 4, 2010 ·

Tips and odds on the Player’s Championship

The Players Championship takes place at one of my favourite courses; the TPC Sawgrass. Tiger Woods is in the field and priced at very generous looking odds of 17/2. If you are having a golf bet this weekend then Genie is here to steer you in the right direction with his weekly betting tips. Tell us what you think in our comments section.

The 17/2 available on Tiger Woods with Sportingbet.com would normally be a no brainer but given his erratic form last week and that he has not performed very well on the TPC Sawgrass course in recent years (he did win it in 2001) Genie is going to pass on the opportunity to bet. I hope that it doesn’t go down as one of the great missed opportunities of golf betting.

Player’s Championship: Players To Watch

This week Genie is going to surprise a few with his value betting picks. Following good success in sticking with the more favoured players in recent weeks I’ve decided that the time for the dark horse has come again. This particular breed can only be found in Kentucky.

JB Holmes has been in solid form this season. He missed the cut last week at Quail Hollow despite a second round of 68. His opening round of 79 was testament to his sometimes erratic performances but don’t let the obvious risk of this happening again put you off. This was his first missed cut of the season. JB has had 5 top 25 finishes from his 10 events this season. You should also be aware that he did miss the cut at this event last year.

JB has some Sawgrass form, finishing 10th and 16th in 2008 and 2007 respectively.  Holmes is capable of scoring birdies with the best of them and at Sawgrass he will need to be having one of his better putting weekends. His dricing can be erratic but Sawgrass is one of the courses where his extra 50 yards tends to help him carry past the main dangers on many holes.

When all is said and done, JB is capable of putting in a strong performance this week and is coming off a fine second round of 68 at Quail Hollow. He is currently available at 140/1 with Bet365, who are paying 6 places at The Players Championship.

Kenny Perry is another fine Kentuckian who has been much maligned this year. At the Masters he performed well for the most part. Apart from some very poor putting he would have been up there with the leaders going into the final day. Kenny has switched to a taller putter and was giving that a trial run last week at Quail Hollow where he shot an opening round of 66. A poor final round of 74 last year saw Kenny finish in 22nd position. In 2008 he was leading here going into the final round and had a disastrous final round of 81 to leave him in 15th place overall.

Kenny Knows this course and, if he can straighten out his putting and the wind doesn’t blow too hard, he could well be in the shake up. Let’s not forget that Kenny has won 5 times on the US Tour in the past 2.5 years. How many other players can say that.
Ladbrokes odds of 150/1 on Kenny Perry.
is a pretty picture. This is an excellent value each way punt.

Quail Hollow Championship Tips

Genie · April 27, 2010 ·

The Quail Hollow Championship is the big event on the USPGA Tour this weekend. Genie has been looking at the form and has come up with a couple of fine betting tips as usual. Tiger Woods plays and should be well respected but 3/1 is not a good price in a very competitive field ahead of the Player’s Championship next weekend.

Players To Watch

This is a course that usually sees the cream rise to the top. In previous years there have been a couple of stand out consistent performers on the course. Anyone who is a regular golf bettor, or indeed a regular follower of Genie’s betting tips will know that course form counts for an awful lot in golf.

Phil Mickelson has finished 3rd, 12th and 5th in the past 3 years and we all know that he is swinging the club well after his awesome performance at Augusta, where he could have won by 10 shots if he had been sinking the 5 footers. Phil is available at 10/1 with Paddy Power and Genie thinks that punters should be taking a piece of this action before the price gets shortened.

Another player who ticks all of the boxes for this event is Anthony Kim. He may have a face that you want to smack but there is no denying this man’s talents. He has also been in excellent form in 2010. A win in the Shell Houston Open, a second place finish in The Honda Classic and a fine third place at the US Masters would nearly be enough reason to back him but there is more. Kim loves this course and followed up a fifth place finish in 2007 with a 5 shot victory at Quail Hollow in 2008. He finished a poor 47th last year after a disastorous third round 78.

Kim can be backed at a very tasty looking 22/1 with Bet365 to claim his second victory of 2010.

Betting Tips Summary

In summary for a €100 staking plan on the Quail Hollow Golf Championship Genie would strongly suggest:

€60 win on Phil Mickelson at 10/1 with Paddy Power

€20 e/w on Anthony Kim at 22/1 with Bet365

Odds on the 2010 Eurovision

It’s that time of year again when the annual Eurovision song contest rolls around. The 2010 Eurovision will be hosted in Greater  Oslo, Norway and marks the 55th annual song contest. In recent years betting on the Eurovision has meant an added incentive to sit through Terry Wogan’s terrible jokes. Having said that, this time round Graham Norton will be commentating for the BBC so that could be even worse. Eurovision odds and betting specials are offered by a number of bookmakers but odds from our selected eurovision odds partners are highlighted below. Make sure to also keep an eye ou our bookmaker special markets, as we’ll be updating with any additional eurovision betting offers.

This year the Eurovision semi finals take place on the 25th and 27th of May, with the final taking place on the 29th. Voting will be slightly modified on past years, meaning that it will be a 50/50 split between tele-voting and jury voting. This could potentially have a bearing on the eurovision odds as as per recent years, it is expected that Eastern European countries will continue a strong pattern of voting for each other. That probably means Ireland will again struggle, but with Niamh Kavanagh looking for more limelight we won’t be too worried.

Current Eurovision Odds

*Each Way Odds are generally 1/4 places 1,2,3,4. Don’t forget to check the Novelty Bets section for the latest markets!

Best Price Guarantee Bookmakers – don’t miss the opportunity to lock in higher returns

Genie · April 22, 2010 ·

Best price guaranteed at the races

How do Best Price Guarantees work?

When a bookmaker offers Best Price Guaranteed (or BPG) on any event or market this guarantees all board and early prices against the starting price (SP). Essentially, Best Price Guaranteed, or Best Odds Guaranteed (BOG) as it is sometimes called is best explained by an example.

Best Price Guaranteed Example

  • You spot a horse is available at 12/1 on the morning of a race and proceed to take place a bet of €10 with a bookmaker offering BPG.
  • At the off your horse has drifted to 14/1
  • Your horse wins and because you bet with a Best Price Guaranteed bookie you are guaranteed the best price. This means that you don’t miss out on €20.
  • In the long run this could add up to a lot so it is a good idea to bet with Best price guaranteed bookmakers

It is estimated that offering best price guaranteed costs bookies approximately 2.5% of turnover and as such offers excellent value for punters.

If you are a keen horse or dog racing punter, then it should be a prerequisite to bet with a best price guaranteed bookmaker.

Sounds good, but what are the caveats with best odd guarantees?

As with every promotion or offer that bookies run, there are terms and conditions. The most common are below.

Best Odds Guaranteed (BOG) is a popular promotion offered by bookmakers, primarily for horse and greyhound racing. However, the offer typically comes with a set of terms and conditions that bettors need to be aware of. The most common terms and conditions associated with BOG include:

1. Race Day Only:

  • BPG is typically only available for bets placed on the day of the race, and sometimes only after a specific time (e.g., 8 AM or 9 AM). Some bookmakers may extend BOG to bets placed the preceding evening however.

2. Eligible Markets Only:

  • Best Price Guarantees usually apply to horse and greyhound racing only.
  • Bets on international races may not be included unless it is otherwise explicitly stated. Typically, BPG is available only for UK and Irish races, though some bookies do extend it to selected international races.

3. BPG Bet Restrictions:

  • Multis/Parlays/Accas/Accumulators and system bets: Some bookmakers exclude multiple bets (e.g., accumulators or Lucky 15s) from BPG.
  • Free Bets: Winnings from free bets are often excluded from the BPG offer.
  • Cashed-Out Bets: Bets where punters cash out early may not qualify for BPG.

4. Payout Limits:

  • Bookies often impose a maximum payout limit for BPG winnings. The max payout amount varies by bookmaker.

5. Excluded Races:

  • Not all races may qualify for BPG. Some bookmakers might exclude specific high profile events, such as large, popular international races.

6. Minimum Bet Requirements:

  • Some bookies impose a minimum stake requirement for BPG to be applied. This is not common, mind you.

7. Bettor Account Limitations:

  • Eligibility may be dependent on the bettor’s account status or risk factor. Some bookies restrict BPG from accounts that have been flagged for bonus abuse, professional betting behavior, or because their future expected margin is negative. This allows them to increase their margins.

8. Timing of BOG:

  • Many bookies specify a cutoff time for BOG offers, such as after 8 AM or 9 AM on race day.

Avoid disappointment. Always check the Terms & Conditions section on the bookmaker’s website to ensure you’re familiar with their BPG specifics, as they can vary slightly between operators.

Punchestown Gold Cup Tips

Punchestown Guinness Gold Cup Betting Tips

Wednesday’s feature race at Punchestown is the Guinness Gold Cup, where Irish challengers Cooldine, Tranquil Sea and Joncol look best to put up a challenge to English favourite Denman, in what could prove to be one of the most challenging Gold Cup race at Punchestown recent times. This time round our Gold Cup Betting Tips are relatively simple.

Gold Cup Favourite Denman Looks Hard To Beat

Currently available at a best price of 13/8 with Paddy Power, English favorite Denman looks to be the pick of the bunch and is Genie’s NAP for Wednesday. Despite coming in behind Imperial Commander in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Tony McCoy’s mount looks to be in top nick in for this one and it’s is hard to look any further than the Paul Nicholl’s ten year old. While the odds on last year’s winner Notre Pere will likely tigten from the 25/1 available with Paddypower, Genie doesn’t think there’ll be any chance of a repeat performance.

Gold cup -the best of the rest

Irish challengers Cooldine and Joncol look like the only potential challengers in this one at 11/2 and 9/2 respectively. The Queen’s favourite Barbers Shop will likely catch the eye of a few but looked well off the pace at Aintree.

Simply put, the Punchestown Gold Cup tip is Denman.

Punchestown Gold Cup Odds

Denman 13/8

Cooldine 9/2

Joncol 11/2

Jy Vole 13/2

Tranquil Sea 10/1

War of Attrition 12/1

Barbers Shop 16/1

Rare Bob 16/1

Notre Pere 25/1

Planet of Sound 25/1

Follow The Plan 50/1

Siegemaster 50/1
